Why Hundreds of UK Patients Choose India for Dentistry

The NHS Cannot Deliver This

NHS dentistry is under enormous pressure. Cosmetic treatments — veneers, smile makeovers, elective implants, Hollywood smile — are simply not available on the NHS. Private UK dental prices for these treatments have risen dramatically: a single porcelain veneer now costs £800–£1,500 at most London practices, and a full smile makeover (10 veneers) frequently runs to £12,000–£18,000.

For tens of thousands of UK patients, the maths simply does not work at home. But those same results — using the exact same materials from Ivoclar Vivadent, Nobel Biocare, and Straumann — are available in Mumbai for a fraction of the price. The dentists who provide them trained to the same internationally recognised standards. Only the postcode (and the invoice) is different.

Mumbai Is Closer Than You Think

London to Mumbai is approximately 9 hours on a direct flight — less time than flying to the US East Coast. British Airways and Air India operate daily direct services from Heathrow. You can leave London on a Monday morning and be in the dental chair on Tuesday.

Most UK patients combine their dental visit with a genuine holiday — Mumbai is a world-class city with extraordinary food, culture, and history. Many extend their trip to Goa (1-hour flight), Kerala, or Rajasthan after treatment. The "dental holiday" is not a marketing phrase; it is genuinely what most UK patients experience.

Our clinic in Vile Parle West is 10 minutes from the international airport. The neighbourhood has excellent 4-star and 5-star hotels, good restaurants, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes recovery comfortable.

What to Bring

Comfortable clothing, any recent dental X-rays or records, a list of any medications you take (important for anaesthetic considerations), and your passport. We take care of everything else. If you wear a retainer or existing dentures, bring those too — we may need to reference them during treatment planning.

Mumbai's weather is warm year-round. If visiting October–March, expect pleasant temperatures of 20–28°C. April–June is hot (30–38°C). July–September is monsoon season — beautiful, but heavy rains. All our UK patients treat any season comfortably.

What UK Patients Say

"I was quoted £14,000 by a London clinic for 10 veneers. At BollywoodLooks I paid under £4,000 for the same treatment with the same Ivoclar porcelain. The clinic is immaculate and Dr. Mehta is extraordinary. I also had a wonderful holiday. Absolute no-brainer."

"My implant would have cost £4,500 in Birmingham. I paid under £1,000 in Mumbai — same Nobel Biocare implant, better aftercare, and I got a week in a beautiful city. Dr. Mehta's communication before and after was exceptional."

James R. — Birmingham

"As a nurse, I did thorough research before choosing BollywoodLooks. The infection control, sterilisation procedures, and clinical standards are equivalent to what I see in UK hospitals. The results of my smile makeover are beautiful."

Frequently Asked Questions — UK Patients

Is dental treatment in India regulated similarly to the UK's GDC system?
India's dentistry is regulated by the Dental Council of India (DCI), which sets standards for education, registration, and clinical practice. While the regulatory body differs from the UK's General Dental Council (GDC), the clinical protocols at high-quality international practices like BollywoodLooks meet or exceed GDC standards. We use the same international material brands and follow the same evidence-based clinical protocols.
What is an e-Medical Visa and how do UK patients apply?
The e-Medical Visa (e-MV) is an Indian visa category specifically designed for medical and dental tourism. UK passport holders can apply online at indianvisaonline.gov.in. The application requires your passport details, travel dates, and a letter of invitation or treatment confirmation from the clinic (which we provide). Processing time is typically 2–4 business days and the fee is approximately $80 USD.
How do I pay — can I use a UK bank card?
Yes. We accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards from UK banks, international bank transfers in GBP, and cash (GBP or USD). We do not accept American Express. Your treatment price is quoted and fixed in GBP before you travel, eliminating any exchange rate risk. A small deposit is payable on booking confirmation; the balance is paid on your arrival day and final fitting day.
What happens if something needs adjustment when I'm back in the UK?
We provide complete treatment records — shade maps, X-rays, material specifications, bite records — that any UK dentist can use to assist you. We also remain available via WhatsApp for remote consultation and can liaise directly with your UK dentist if needed. For minor adjustments (occlusal refinement, polishing), a UK dentist can assist using our records. Major revisions are rare; if required, we would invite you back at no charge for the clinical correction.
Should I tell my UK dentist I am having treatment in India?
We recommend it. A good UK dentist will be supportive — many are aware of and comfortable with international dental tourism. We provide a full clinical report for your UK dentist's records. This ensures continuity of care and means your dentist can assist you with routine maintenance, X-rays, and monitoring after treatment. Some UK dentists unfamiliar with international materials may express concern — your treatment records and material warranties address these concerns comprehensively.
Is there a best time of year for UK patients to visit Mumbai?
October through February is the most pleasant period — temperatures of 20–28°C, low humidity, and clear skies. This period corresponds well with UK winter, when escaping the cold for a warm city with a dental appointment makes excellent sense. March through June is hotter. July through September is monsoon season — dramatic and beautiful, but with significant rainfall. We treat international patients year-round and all seasons are manageable.
Can I bring a companion or family member with me?
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Many UK patients bring a partner, friend, or family member who sightseeing in Mumbai while appointments take place. Having a companion makes the experience more enjoyable and provides practical support, especially on the day of significant procedures. Mumbai is an extremely companion-friendly destination with excellent museums, food tours, markets, and Bollywood experiences.
How quickly can I get a treatment plan and price quote?
Within 24 hours of sending your smile photos and brief dental history via WhatsApp. Dr. Mehta personally reviews every case. You will receive a preliminary diagnosis, recommended treatment plan, and fixed price quotation in pounds sterling — at no cost. Many UK patients send photos on a Monday and have a confirmed treatment plan and provisional travel dates by Tuesday.
